Every year, Saint John Hotel Villas & Spa is closed from late Oct. until late April for the winter season.

Here’s a place that recalls the glory days of Mykonos, when it was one of the most glamorous destinations in the Mediterranean. With just shy of 150 rooms, the Saint John Hotel Villas & Spa isn’t small — but from any one of its private balconies or verandas, to say nothing of the two hundred meters of private beach, you’d be hard pressed to notice anything other than the stunning Greek isle setting.

The location, on Agios Ioannis bay in the island’s southwest, is convenient enough to both the airport and Mykonos town, and somewhat secluded at the same time — and it faces west, towards Delos Island, which matters quite a lot when the sun is setting over the Aegean. The salt-water infinity pool faces the sea, as do all the rooms and suites, which come furnished in an understated contemporary style, as well as the three private villas, big enough for families or small groups.

There’s a bit of conference space, if you’re lucky/unlucky enough to be here on business. Of more interest to leisure guests are the three restaurants, the three bars, and the Aphrodite spa. It’s the Greek-isle good life the way it was meant to be, and leaves the crowded bits of Mykonos in the dust.
